From 1961to 1975, Brisbane changed forever under Brisbane Lord Mayor Clem Jones.

His city council started planning the city and built many things.

In 1960 Brisbane had no town planning, many streets were still dirt and most people had outdoor toilets.

Clem Jones's Council introduced city planning and then they sealed roads, and introduced sewerage systems.

His council built underground car parks for the city and put gardens on top of them.
He also bought land to create public gardens including Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt Cootha.

In 1968 he replaced the Brisbane trams with buses.

Clem loved the game of Cricket.

He was curator (groundsman) at the Brisbane Cricket Ground (The Gabba)
He even prepared the pitch for a test match against England.
Clem had a grandstand named after him.
